Greene County Schools superintendent Tim Christensen said Monday that the district is making changes to tighten visitor access to school buildings by requiring visitors to sign in at the school office and wear visitor badges.
Additionally, Christensen is gathering information about the potential cost to install a camera/buzzer system on one door in each district building. With that system, all the doors to a building could be locked during the school day and anyone coming to the building would need to be buzzed in by office personnel to gain access to the building.
Christensen said he hopes to have cost estimates and a proposal for consideration at the April agenda.
“As a school district, the Greene County Schools tries to provide the safest environment for our students. With that being said, we know we can always improve in this area,” he said. He also apologized for any previous comments that may have left an impression that he doesn’t take the issue of school security seriously.
